DOWNLOAD THE STATEMENT

The SOGICE Survivor Statement has become one of the world’s most prominent and respected survivor-led documents. It presents the first critical definition of conversion ideology and outlines the primary categories of conversion practice, along with carefully developed recommendations for intervention.

The SOGICE Survivor Statement has two parts.

  1. Discussion

This outlines the history of the LGBTQA+ conversion movement, the various practices of the movement, the ideology that underpins almost all LGBTQA+ conversion practices, and the rationale for the recommendations of survivors.

  1. Recommendations

This outlines the history of the LGBTQA+ conversion movement, the various practices of the movement, the ideology that underpins almost all LGBTQA+ conversion practices, and the rationale for the recommendations of survivors.

The 2010s saw several jurisdictions around the world intervene to address the problem of conversion practices, with laws and directives being passed by Brazil, Ontario, Manitoba, Ecuador, Malta, Spain, Taiwan, New Jersey, California, Oregon, Illinois, Nevada, Washington, Hawaii, and even the Church of England. The SOGICE Survivor Statement raises the bar and outlines definitions and a model that have been hailed as the new gold standard for addressing conversion practices in all contexts.

The statement and its recommendations have been endorsed by a growing list of community leaders and organisations including Amnesty International Australia, OutRight Action International, LGBTIQ+ Health Australia, ACON, and Thorne Harbour Health.
